Poker tournaments provide what has become a very popular past time. In any typical ring game, a player can join the table at any time (provided there is a free seat) and cash in his/her chips at any stage, provided he/she has any.
The structure of poker tournaments is very different in that each player has to buy in to the competition. This is the fee that is charged for entry and varies depending on the size of the prize pool. The larger the prize pool (prize money on offer), the larger the buy in will be to the tournament. Where tournament poker varies from ring games is that once you have bought in and are seated, you can not cash in your chips until you have either lost all your chips or you have eliminated every player and have all the chips. The idea is to eliminate every player so that you hold all the chips (picture below is the WPT final table - PokerStars Caribbean).
Poker Tournaments are structured in such a way that the payout's will be split over the top 20% of players. The ultimate tournament is of course the highly acclaimed World Series of Poker which was begun by Tom Morehead of the Riverside casino in Reno. This tournament started as an invitational tournament and has evolved into a multi million dollar event which captivates the imagines of hundreds who compete each year for the ultimate prize and honor in poker, the WSOP title. It is these types of tournaments that have caught the imaginations of so many and taken tournament poker to the heights that it has reached today.
Poker Tournaments have a blind structure which runs throughout the contest. These are automatic bets which have to be made. As the tournament progresses, these automatic bets increase forcing players to play or be eaten up by the blinds. In each round of betting, one player will have to cover the automatic bet otherwise known as the big blind and another player covers the second automatic bet know as the small blind. A dealer chip is used to indicate the players who have to post these bets, moving round the table clockwise so that every player covers the same number of automatic bets. This makes sense, after all if players did not have to play, they could just sit tight and wait for other players to be knocked out.

Party Poker - Party Poker is the second biggest poker sites around and frequently has over 100,000 players during peak hours. There is not a great amount of guarenteed tournaments (of value anyway) but this is not why we are recommending this site. On the positive side, there are an abundance of tournaments ranging from mico stakes up to million dollar tournaments in addition to a huge amount of qualifying events to land based tournaments, WSOP, WPT events.
Titan Poker - Titan Poker is a relatively new addition to the market having come online a few years ago. This is one site that used an agressive marketing strategy with huge player promotions, million dollar freerolls, and great value tournaments. With a $500 bonus on offer for all new players, some of the best promotions and software graphics around, Titan is an excellent tournament venue.
Full Tilt Poker - I am a huge fan of Full Tilt Poker for a number of different reasons. Firstly they have outstanding graphics, avatars, an excellent array of value tournaments and more. As you play
