Poker hand rankings should be the starting point as knowing what hand beats what is key if you are going to play a good game. Although there are many different poker games, most games use the same ranking of poker hands to determine who wins a particular hand. In most poker games, sa standard 52 card deck is used which is made up of 4 different suits each holding 13 cards (2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q,K,A).
The four suits are Spades (
), Hearts (
), Clubs (
) and Diamonds (
). As the list below suggests, the higher up the rankings your hand appears, the stronger your hand although the beauty of poker is that if you can get your opponent to fold through sized bets, you are not obliged to show your hand - so really, it is more about what your opponent thinks that you have, rather that what you necessarily have! Anyway, here is the list from high card (weakest hand) through to the Royal Flush (the daddy of all poker hands).

If a hand contains none of the above combinations (pair and above), it is valued by the highest card there, in the case immediately above the King would be the high card.
